MORE KATRINA QUILTS - Sue Van Vorhees, May 2006
FCQ Member Sue Vorhees made a second trip to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and she brought with her quilts made by our members.
This one-room apartment is occupied by an 88-year-old man who lost his wife soon after the storm. His house was completely taken by the water. He is lonely and frail. We left this "Love Quilt" on his bed with a note. He asked that the quilt be passed to another person who needed it more. His friend delivered the quilt to a young woman who also had lost everything and has been working in the volunteer center to provide help for others. We later received a call saying how surprised and thrilled she was to have something new.
