FCQ members give very generously of their time and talents. Here are just a few of the projects in which we are involved:
LOVE QUILTS
Love Quilts are made throughout the year and in June, they are donated to local groups such as Grassroots Crisis Intervention and Christian Services of Howard County. The quilts are produced almost exclusively from donated fabrics and materials. During the summer months, squares are cut from fabric and designs are created. After the quilt pattern has been laid out on a table, the rows are carefully labeled and the "kits" are distributed to be sewn. The quilt tops are then sandwiched and tied, and a custom label is added.

WOUNDED SOLDIER QUILTS
FCQ is assisting the Quilters Guild of Southern Maryland in making quilts for wounded soldiers returning from active duty. The minimum size for these quilts is 36"x36" and red-white-and-blue is a favorite color theme. The quilt label usually reads: "To An American Hero..."

PROJECT LINUS QUILTS
Project Linus is a national effort to provide quilts for children who are ill or in crises. Quilts or blankets (knitted, crocheted, or tied--all are welcome) can be any size from 14" square for preemies to extra-large for teenagers and young adults. Your name and address should be pinned to the quilt so that the project coordinator can track it. Linus Quilts are given to juvenile patients at Johns Hopkins, Kennedy Kreiger, Prince George's Hospital, Sarah's House, as well as to other groups and individuals in need.
RACE-FOR-THE-CURE QUILTS
Every fall, the Susan G. Komen Foundation requests lap quilts for their Chinese auction held in conjunction for the Baltimore Race for the Cure. This is not a formal guild project, but FCQ members have stepped up to do their part in the fight against breast cancer by making some unique and stunning quilts for the raffle.

Blessed are the quilters for they are the piecemakers.
