Workshop - "Transitions" - Virginia Walton
Saturday, October 4, 2008
Students will create a mosaic quilt with tessalations.
Creating a cascade of color with Benartex Fabrics, this workshop explores the interaction of Fall Fabrics in a
tessellated colorwash. Tessellation's create a mosaic with endless potential and are made with only one shape.
Virginia's easy, curved piecing technique doesn't use pins or clipping when sewing this variation of a circular
curve. This pattern and its clothing variation is from Virginia book "From Quits to Wearable Art" and can be seen
in the Featured Teacher article in "Traditional Quiltworks", issue #78. Taught by the author and inventor of the
Creative Curves Rulers©, the Creative Curves Ellipse Rulers©, and Books, plus the new Creative Curves Kaleidoscope Ruler©, and Book.
See the example on her website
http://www.creativecurves.com
The class costs $40, and if you want to purchase her fabric, a kit is an additional $35 plus whichever of the
creative curves rulers you may want to purchase.
Workshop - "Color" - Virginia Walton
Sunday, October 5, 2008
All the fabric is provided, over 1200 different fabrics, for the Color Workshop
participants to use to create several examples of quilt patterns. Numerous quilts will be seen to illustrate
the different principles being explored. Students will choose the fabrics to 'play' with among those available
This workshop is divided into 3 parts. Each part is then divided into 2 sections: mosaic designs and pieced block patterns.
Part 1 is devoted to the use of solid fabrics. Exploring through exercises how the depth of color influences the overall look and impact of a quilt.
Part 2 is devoted to the use of calico fabrics - no solids allowed. This is the most difficult section, to successfully combine these
busy fabrics to create a "Country" or "Victorian" quilt.
Part 3 is devoted to current fabrics - all the fabrics to be found in a quilt or fabric store. The solids are again available as well a
s the calicos, jungle prints, novelty fabrics, paisleys, Jenny Beyer's and other fabrics.
See the example on her website
http://www.creativecurves.com
The class costs $40, and if you want to purchase her fabric, it will be an additional $25.
