"Color My World" Challenge
Many people have asked whether there was going to be another quilt challenge for FCQ, since we had such fun with Nancy's.
I asked for some suggestions. Thanks to everyone who responded. Sharon Rhoton had an idea that seemed very appropriate after the Color my World success.
Nancy Evans has purchased a box of Crayola crayons and we are ready to go.
So we will start this Thursday - May 15. We will work on our quilts all summer and have show and tell on Monday, September 15 and Thursday, September 18.
Anyone who wants to participate will draw a crayon from the bag. The challenge is to create a quilt that is your interpretation of the color. If you can't get to guild soon, you can have a friend draw your crayon for you. We will keep track of the member and the color that they drew.
There are just a few "rules" for this challenge:
- You need to use the color of the crayon somewhere in your quilt.
- The quilt can be traditional - using your color or it can be an interpretation of the name of the color i.e. you pull "barn red" and create a farm theme quilt.
- You need to keep the crayon and attach it to the quilt on the day we do show and tell.
- "Quilts" can be totes or clothing - any type of quilted object.
Everyone in the guild is encouraged to take part in the challenge. We hope that this is going to be lots of fun.

Quilts for the Soldiers
Bonnie Dank reminds us that there is a real need for quilts for injured soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
As the war continues we tend to forget the men and women serving our country and they're running out of quilts.
Any size, any color - even pillows would be nice to support a wounded arm or leg. Bonnie will collect them and take them
with her on her frequent visits to the hospital. Let's show our support for our troops by comforting them at a time when
they really need our help.
Anxiety Quilts Needed
Peg McClelland has asked for members to make quilts for the psychiatric patients at
Saint Agnes Hospital. These are small quilts, just large enough for patients to hold onto and "worry" with, maybe
just 18" - 24" square, although any small size will do. You can also make them more interesting by adding textural
pieces to the back, such as sewing on pieces of fur, corduroy, zippers, etc. Peg says that these are a real comfort
to the patients and it helps soothe their anxieties.
Blocks for Members
Friendship Blocks
We send Friendship Blocks to members who have moved away to remind them of their friends
here at Faithful Circle. Make the block in the colors she's chosen, sign your block and add a message if you like.
The pattern for the block is here:
http://www.faithfulcirclequilters.com/patterns/FriendshipBlockInstructions.pdf
Hearts
When our members are going through a tough patch, we cheer them with hearts.
The finished size for the hearts is 6 inches, but the background for applique blocks can shrink, so
it's best to make the background block oversize, say 7 inches so it can be cut down. Use your own applique or pieced pattern, freehand draw a heart,
or trace one of these designed by Debra Gabel. These are Acrobat pdf files:
Simple Heart or
Triple Hearts or
Curly Heart (Outline Style)
Sign your heart, add a message if you like, and mail it in a cheerful note of encouragement.
